Fine Cell Work enables people in prison to redefine themselves, inspiring and empowering them as they strive to rebuild their lives and non-criminal identities.

Fine Cell Work has worked in British prisons since 1997, reaching 8500 prisoners and prison-leavers. We tackle the need for training, work skills, therapeutic support and financial resilience for people in prison by providing skilled, paid textiles training for 550 prisoners in 32 English prisons and for 30 prison leavers annually. We teach and pay them to do fine needlework in their cells and textiles production in prison workshops, selling their products to museums, designers and the public. The prisoners can save their earnings for their families and for release. They gain self-worth, employable skills and a desire to learn more. We also provide prison leavers with employment support and further training at our community-based textiles Hub, to enable their social reintegration. We work effectively to promote and sell the prisoners’ work. Their finely-stitched cushions, rugs and quilts have received glowing coverage in more than 300 print and online publications. They have been sold to the V&A Museum and English Heritage, to top interior designers and internationally.
