Marshland Hall & Tearoom is the friendly community centre and volunteer-run tearoom at the heart of Marshland St James (between Wisbech and King’s Lynn). Opened in 2018 as a modern replacement for older facilities, it offers a bright main hall, meeting room, kitchen, changing rooms and outdoor patio. Locals enjoy homemade food and drinks, classes, clubs, markets, parties and sports – all inclusive for every age and ability. Funds are needed to keep the charity (Marshland St James and District Community & Sports Centre) financially sustainable: maintain the building, support volunteer-run services, fund activities that tackle social isolation (especially among older residents), promote health and wellbeing, and ensure this welcoming village hub stays open and thriving for everyone.

Volunteer opportunities at Marshland Hall & Tearoom Marshland Hall & Tearoom (the community centre and sports hub in Marshland St James) relies heavily on local volunteers. The tearoom is run by a dedicated group of community volunteers, and the whole venue is supported by people who help keep activities, events, and facilitiesHow to get involved Main route: Fill in the volunteer form on their website → marshlandhall.org.uk/volunteer Contact them directly: Phone: 01945 430414 Email: enquiries@marshlandhall.org.uk WhatsApp: 07470908369 They encourage anyone interested to get in touch so they can match you to suitable roles based on your availability, skills, and interests. No formal list of current vacancies is published on the site — opportunities appear to be flexible and ongoing. Typical areas where volunteers help Tearoom — Serving customers, preparing/serving food and drinks, taking orders, cleaning, and creating a welcoming atmosphere. This is one of the most visible volunteer roles and helps combat social isolation in the village. Events and activities — Supporting workshops, markets, classes (yoga, book club, karate, kids’ sessions, farmers’ markets, painting workshops, etc.), setting up/clearing away, or helping with bookings. General centre support — Helping with hall hire, maintenance, gardening/outdoor spaces, or one-off projects. Past example: In 2022 they specifically sought handymen for a “Friendly Benches” project to create community meeting spots.
