For those street children and most underprivileged young people attending our programmes, our in-country volunteers work closely with families / care-givers to understand what is most needed for the beneficiary in terms of educational or financial support, healthcare or subsistence, to help them enjoy life, be a child, receive an education and to end the need to work on the streets to support their families. Through the support of our donors, primarily we provide a child-friendly environment for children to play, learn and have access to a responsible adult to talk to about any issues affecting them. Our sports programmes run weekly outside of school hours, offering a range of sporting activities, including football, cricket, hockey, athletics and team building/field-based games; where the children – our beneficiaries learn basic skills in a friendly environment. One of the biggest effects on children is malnutrition. Our social workers regularly come across cases of malnutrition on their visits to local communities, with many children only enjoying one small meal a day. Through our food bank, we are able to provide emergency food and provisions to families in situations where children are at severe risk of starvation. We often offer small business grants or agriculture support so that families in rural communities can grow more vegetables to feed their children or sell, to generate income of their own; so they can use the profits to help educate their children and put food on the table for their children. Many street children miss out on the opportunity to receive an education or to gain basic skills training, such as driving, carpentry or engineering, as a result, they struggle to gain employment and therefore an income to improve the quality of life. Through our skills training programmes, we help young people gain these skills, as well as providing the environment to discuss their views, including dealing with the challenging subjects of alcohol and drug use, child labour and sexual exploitation, bullying, as well as developing literacy and numeracy, job training and creating a CV. For many young people whose only means of survival is begging or street trading, we help them develop the workplace skills and opportunities through our contact with employers across Sierra Leone. Help ranges from preparing a CV to learning basic computing and giving them basic employment skills, with the aim of making them more attractive to a prospective employer.

We are looking for help with fundraising, sports kit/equipment collection, school books donations, which we ship and use to help support and run our programmes in Sierra Leone. We also need help with building our social media presence - we have a Facebook and X account, that we would love to refresh and use to help promote our work
