What Help2Fund Is and Why It Exists

Help2Fund is a free fundraising platform for UK charities. We build donation pages, we promote them on our social channels, and we do not charge a penny for any of it. This post is the full version of what that means in practice.

The money side, first

Because this is the part that matters most, it comes first. When someone donates through Help2Fund, the payment is processed by Stripe and goes directly to the charity. The money never passes through us, never sits in a Help2Fund account, and never waits on us to release it. We could not touch it if we wanted to, and that is by design.

The only cost is Stripe's standard card processing fee, roughly 2.1% plus 20p per donation. On a £10 donation that works out to about 41p, so around £9.59 reaches the charity. That fee goes to Stripe, the payment company, not to us. Help2Fund takes no platform fee, no subscription, and no cut of donations. Ever.

Why we started

Most fundraising platforms charge a platform fee on every donation, a monthly subscription, or both. For a large organisation that is a line in a budget. For most charities it is money taken directly from the cause. We did not think charities should have to choose between decent fundraising tools and the work itself, so we built a platform where they do not have to.

What we actually do

Three things. We build donation pages: a charity fills in a short form and has a page ready in about five minutes, with every fundraiser checked by a real person before it goes live. We promote our partners: each charity we work with gets featured on our Instagram and this blog, so their page is actively shared rather than left to sit and hope. And we connect people: our Find a Charity tool lists more than 1,000 UK charities, helping donors and volunteers discover organisations doing work they care about.

Right now twelve charities are raising on Help2Fund, from a carers' centre in Wandsworth to a surfing charity that takes London kids to the Devon coast. You can read about every one of them on this blog.
